Book about ASML: Top company in a global village

In his book ‘Slim zand – Hoe ASML verscheen in Veldhoven’ (‘Smart sand – How ASML settled in Veldhoven’), journalist and city researcher Tijs van den Boomen explores the consequences of the arrival of chip machine manufacturer ASML for Veldhoven and the surrounding area.

The pace of the world is not determined in Silicon Valley, but on the Brabant sandy soils. In Veldhoven, a place that many Dutch people cannot identify on the map, tech giant ASML is building the machines that provide us with increasingly faster chips. The global market leader attracts thousands of technicians from all over the world. The question of how many expats or internationals live in Veldhoven and the surrounding area and where they reside, is not yet easy to answer.
