To the disappointment of many local residents, the cows were removed from Park Meerhoven on Saturday. The farmer has told them that this had to be done by order of the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority, because the field is full of St. John’s wort.
Last week a resident of Meerhoven had sounded the alarm about this at the municipality and the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority, which oversees animal welfare. He was worried because, according to publications on the internet, this herb is toxic to both horses and cattle.
