Designer of Hovenring passed away
Adriaan Kok (1973-2024), chief designer of the Hovenring on the border of Eindhoven and Veldhoven, passed away last weekend at the age of 51.
Kok worked for many years at engineering firm ipv Delft, which was responsible for the realization of the futuristic-looking Hovenring at the time. The floating bicycle roundabout, which hangs from a 70-meter-high pylon, was world news when it opened in 2012.
Ambassador
Ipv Delft describes Kok as an ‘ambassador’ of the engineering firm. Without Kok, projects such as the Hovenring and, for example, the Tegenbosch bicycle bridge – also in Eindhoven – ‘would have looked very different or would not have existed at all’, the firm wrote in response to his passing.
