Eindhoven politics anticipates future of Airport: ‘For the most part unnecessary holiday flights’
Eindhoven Airport should not count too much on the airport being able to grow any further towards 2030. With this emphatic message, part of the Eindhoven city council is already preparing for a new discussion about the future of the airport.
“For us, Eindhoven Airport is a necessary evil, which must operate as sustainably and responsibly as possible. This means that we must keep a close eye on the balance between economic benefits and the impact on quality of life, the environment and the climate”, stated D66 council member Annelies Becker on Tuesday evening during a meeting in which the airport was on the Eindhoven political agenda.
With the agenda, the coalition parties GroenLinks, PvdA and D66 and opposition party SP alderman Robert Strijk (D66) wanted to provide some ‘frameworks’ for an interim evaluation of the report that was drawn up five years ago under the leadership of politician Pieter van Geel. In that report, the parties involved – including the municipality of Eindhoven as co-owner of Eindhoven Airport – have made agreements.
