Library in Meerhoven not yet a certainty: ‘Strijp is more than just Meerhoven’
Despite the explicit wish of a large group of residents, it is not yet certain that Meerhoven will get its own neighbourhood library. The Hangar will soon function as a community centre.
Alderman Mieke Verhees (PvdA) informed the municipal council of this this week, after questions about this from the council. According to Verhees, the intention is still for each district to get a neighbourhood library, but that does not mean that the ‘bibliotoop’ – as Eindhoven calls the new branches – for the Strijp district will actually come to Meerhoven. Meerhoven will definitely get a place that can function as a community centre, the alderman emphasised. “That function will definitely come.” According to the alderman, an experiment in this area will start this year. According to her, the Hangar will ‘also play a role in this’.
Strijp more than just Meerhoven
“So it could happen that the district library in Strijp will end up in a different district than Meerhoven, despite the fact that it is desirable in that location?”, CDA council member Remco van Dooren wondered out loud. “That’s right, Strijp is more than just Meerhoven”, Verhees replied. “We said: every district will have a library. In Strijp, that could be in Meerhoven, but that is no guarantee. We really need to include that in a broader consideration.”
