New light artwork Meerhoven depicts air traffic. ‘An ode to breaking away from the earth’

Meerhoven will get an additional eye-catcher in the evenings: the Esplanade – Airlines work of art will be built on the Zandkasteel, on a 600-metre long stretch of road, during the course of this year.

Departing and incoming air traffic will soon be symbolized with light strips, applied to the horizontal beams of fifteen portals. Airlines’ gantries vary in height, up to a maximum of six meters. The location was not chosen by chance: this is precisely where Eindhoven air traffic at Welschap had its origins more than ninety years ago. The old airport building is located along the six hundred meter stretch between the shopping center and the canal.
