Opening cricket pitch Park Meerland

The cricket pitch in Park Meerland will be officially opened on Saturday May 14, 2022. All interested are welcome.

Cricket is a popular sport among internationals. This sport requires a large field with a strip in the middle, the so-called pitch. Since the professional fields are not or hardly available for amateur sports, the internationals have started looking for an alternative location for playing ‘social cricket’. The playground at Park Meerland came out as the most suitable.

Pilot
After consultation with the Residents’ Association Meerhoven and other organisations, the municipality set up the pitch as a test. Residents’ Association Meerhoven is positive about the initiative, as it brings people of all nationalities closer together and the initiators want to involve the entire neighborhood in the sport. A large part of the internationals come from Meerhoven. During the game, only part of the playing field is needed. The meadow therefore remains available for other activities.
