Reconstruction road narrowings Bosrand

The much-discussed road narrowings on the Bosrand are being adjusted again. This is the result of consultation between residents’ associations in Meerhoven and the municipality of Eindhoven.

At the beginning of March, the municipality adjusted the road narrowings on the Bosrand because the original narrowings with sewer pipes no longer met. For agile drivers, the new narrowings with concrete blocks are not a problem, but others clearly have more trouble with it. In consultation with residents’ associations in Meerhoven it has now been decided to adjust the narrowings again.

Modifications
The length of the road narrowings is reduced from 3.20 to 0.80 meters, while the free passage is increased from 2.30 to 2.40 meters. The concrete blocks are applied on both sides with a rubber bumper so that damage is less likely. The space between the rubber bumpers is 2.40 meters. The blocks are also placed in such a way that drivers suffer as little as possible from the ‘bend’ in the road. Because of these adjustments, the road narrowings are more friendly for motorists and freight traffic can still be banned.

No height restriction
The alternative solution of a height restriction is not preferred by the municipality. An altitude portal does not decelerate traffic and has a lower image quality. Moreover, the risk of damage to altitude portals is high and the measure can not be implemented in the short term because a traffic decision is required.

Execution
The work for the new modifications will take place on Friday, May 4, 2018 between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. The rubber bumpers are applied in a later stage. Car traffic is affected by the work and can better detour via Park Forum and the Meerhovendreef. Cyclists and pedestrians can use nearby cycle and footpaths.
