‘Residents of Meerhoven live at a shallow pool of courgette soup’

The water in the ponds in Meerhoven is extremely low. The ponds are full of blue-green algae and residents are disappointed.

Water played an important role in the construction of Meerhoven that started almost twenty years ago. Interconnected ponds were built in the new district. These are fed by the rainwater that is supplied via a separate sewer system through the surrounding neighbourhoods. There is an auger water pump at the tennis club that pumps the water up and through the Bovenven, Onderven and the Centrumplas the water should circulate through the neighbourhood. But the auger stands still and many connecting currents between the ponds are dry.
