Before family business VDL presented a sensational idea for housing on the former Welschap golf course in March 2023, several other wild plans had already been discussed. The area was in the picture as a huge event area and also for refugee shelter.

And certainly for the construction of temporary homes, the municipality has seriously considered behind the scenes putting aside countless restrictions and moral objections. This is evident from a stack of internal documents that the municipality of Eindhoven has made public at the request of the Eindhovens Dagblad. VDL is now exclusively aiming for the construction of a circular apartment complex with approximately three hundred homes in the so-called Brainport Village. All other plans are off the table, a spokesperson said in an explanation.
