VDL’s spectacular plan receives little support from the Eindhoven council
At least three of Eindhoven’s four coalition parties seem to have no interest in housing construction on the former Welschap golf course, on the edge of the area now referred to as City Forest.
“I would say: first talk to the Van der Leegte family,” said CDA committee member Jan Joosten. Coalition members GroenLinks, PvdA and D66 do not like housing construction on Welschap. A number of opposition parties have also already said no to the plan, even though it has not yet officially been submitted to the municipal council for decision-making. The construction plan was discussed during the discussion of the plans that the municipality has for De Wielewaal and the City Forest, of which the former Philips estate is part. The City Forest consists of various existing green areas, including the Philips Fruit Garden, the Philips de Jongh Park and De Herdgang, which will soon form a more integrated whole.
